Artistic Statement

My portfolio is so unique and different from any others, because all work that has been placed into it is my very own. Overviews of what I have in my portfolio are all the compositional tricks and projects I have learned and created ever since I entered this class. They are: compositional trick #1 Rules of thirds, compositional trick #2 Leading Lines, compositional trick #3 Macro, compositional trick #4 Simplicity, compositional trick #5 Extreme Angles, compositional trick #6 Framing, compositional trick #7 Drawing with light, and the last compositional trick #8 Fill in Flash. I don’t only have compositional tricks in it, I as well have my projects such as the contact sheet (where I take all my compositional tricks and blend them into one page). Then I have all the portraits pictures I took of my partner, Laura Alvarez. Above that I have some portraits I fixed using Photoshop skills and techniques. Then I have a critique on an artistic photograph, and then for Halloween I transformed myself into a vampire and alien using Photoshop. Finally are my two favorite projects the social issue, and the words project.
Over the course of this semester I have learned many digital tricks. I have learned how to use Photoshop and I have also learned that with Photoshop you are able to change the picture to something similar to what it is you want. Our teacher has also taught us about many different artists such as to like: Barbara Kruger, Francis Bacon and Annie Leibovitz.
The project I think I was the most successful with was the Social Issue. I believe I was most successful with this project because I was able to balance my picture well with my statement and I was able to paint and use Photoshop correctly on my photograph. What I struggled with the most was with my personal words project. I got a little bit behind for missing class that my project didn’t end up how I would really have wanted it to.
In the future I could improve by having everything done on time, by using my time efficiently. Although I already have seen improvement throughout this semester course with Photoshop, and as well with learning, little by little, how to take artistic photographs.
This class has allowed me to learn many different forms of art. At first I thought this class was going to be hard and challenging, but I am able to take challenge so I am able to have fun from this class, while I’m still learning.

Personal Words

...The lyrics I chose for this project are, "Hasta el fin del Mundo" & "Vivo y Muero en tu Piel" by Jennifer Pena.

“Es un Sentimiento muy difĂcil de explicar…como te deseo no lo puedo fingir…tu eres mi aire leal, mi mayor necesidad…Vivo y Muero en tu Piel…”
...The reason to why I chose these lyrics are because I admire the artist and I love the songs I chose from her. Those two songs do truly mean certainly so much to me. These two songs are in Spanish and basically all they are saying is that I don't know what I would do without you, and that it would be my pleasure to accompany you till the end.

Social Issue" Domestic Violence"

...For my social issue I took a picture of a young teenage girl who is blindly in love and doesn’t realize that she is being harmed incredibly deep by an abusive boyfriend. I took this picture in black and white. My statement was made in red, to alert and make people understand that she is in a risky and dangerous relationship and that she should just get out of it. I chose to do it on a young girl because as teenagers we are blind and haven’t yet woken up to see everything. We think we have seen it all but we haven’t yet seen anything. Many girls allow having an abusive relationship; because they saw their parents go through it and saw that everything was going well, although a violent, abusive and jealous relationship is never right.
…I interpret my social issue as something I wish would stop amongst us girls. I relate this issue in my life because I have seen maybe not as much domestic violence but enough. This has always been an issue for me and it is something I would love for it to stop. This issue is truly strong towards me because it is something that should simply not happen at all.

Scary Effects

...My favorite picture of these two being shown is the alien, because I don't look as scary as to how I look in the other one. Some of the tools I learned while doing these two projects were the pen tool, the dodge and burn tool, the paintbrush, and many other more. While doing these two projects I ran into many difficulties ,such as to catching up to the instructor's instructions. What i think I did well on was on dodging and burning my alien, and working with the bloody paintbrushes for my vampire. These two projects could be used as a promotion for a new movie, a new product or simply just to promote Halloween and encourage people to purchase their products.

Critique: Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison

...Along a pasture full of dirty ashes, as if a fire had recently happened walks a man, who recently just got married and appears to have lost the wife in the fire. As he is walking he is dropping tears to mark his path of pain. He stares deeply into the flames, noticing that he has just lost everything.

Photographic Effects

...Out of all the tricks we learned in class these past days, My favorite one was glow. Out of all the four tricks that I learned I would want to learn more about is about Cross Process. What I discovered is that with Photoshop you are able to do anything that you want, you can take blemishes aways, make your teeth white and shiny and just fix the pictures to make them look great!

Portraits

...The portrait I think I was the most successful with was the face portrait, because the picture itself and as well as my partner both looked great. For my artistic portrait, I used the compositional trick of extreme angles; the mood she is creating is a confident and dominant one. For my props, I chose to use make-up,a purse and most importantly a mirror. The reason to why I chose to use these things were to make her look like if the world was all about her. My picture did turn out how I wanted it to;I could of done it better, maybe a better background. What makes my surprise photo unique is the heart frame around her. I think this project would of have been better if we would of had more time and experience with the cameras.

Contact Sheet

...Out of all the compositional tricks that I learned, I liked Framing better. The reason to why I liked the compositional trick of Framing better was because it made my picture look much more better, it made her stand out more and made her be the attention. I disliked the compositional Trick of Extreme Angles, because it was difficult for me to take pictures of extreme angles because I wasn't so good at it. My favorite picture that I took is the picture of Laura with the compositional trick of Framing. I truly liked this picture because the picture and my partner both look good.

Compositional Trick #8 Fill in Flash

...The Compositional Trick of Fill in Flash effected my photos by bringing light to them when they were taken in dark and gloomy places. Fill in Flash should be used only when needed such as, in a dark and rural place where there's hardly any light and need the flash to fill in for the light.

Compositional Trick #7 Drawing with Light

...Taking photographs using the compositional trick of light creates a mood to the picture. Using light sets the other picture apart from others by the shadows, the setting, and the feeling it creates itself. The feeling this picture creates is a sad, thoughtful kind of feeling; The black and white also gives the picture some type of depressing mood.

Compositional Trick #6 Framing

...Framing helps the viewers eye go directly into the subject. Framing in my pictures helps them out by going directly into the subject it doesn't loose them and it makes the picture suitable for the viewer to see.

Compostional Trick #5 Extreme Angles

...Extreme Angles are a good technique to use because it makes many of your pictures to look artistic and professional. My pictures, in my opinion I think could of been better pictures of Extreme Angles. I don't necessarily think that my pictures are good examples of extreme angles because they weren't taken from above or from below in such a good manner.

Compositional Trick #4 Simplicity

...Simplicity makes the picture more interesting because it gives emotion to the picture making you think and imagine what the scene is all about. Simplicity helps strengthen the picture because it allows you to focus only on one subject and not many. Taking a simplicity shot does not mean boring, because simplicity shots allow you to focus only one object. I think simplicity is an effective trick to use when you are trying to get your viewers to see and focus only on one thing. In my simplicity photos I took a picture of a bird and a plant, but simply only that.

Compositional Trick #3 Macro

...Macro is a technique to get a close up to the picture. When using macro you dont want to zoom into the picture, because it's already gonna be zoomed in. Macro could be used to capture the smallest wonders of the world or to capture a cool and awesome texture. Macro allows use to see the world in a different way, and makes your pictures more artistic and more delightful..

Compostitonal Trick #2 Leading Lines

...Leading Lines are any type of lines that should drag your eyes directly into the emphasis. It doesnt matter what type of lines they are just as long they catch and help the viewers sight get to the emphasis...that is when leading lines are used..

Compositional Trick #1 Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds....

...The Rule of Thirds is a technique used to make your subject stand out as more.
The Rule of Thirds is used by placing a tic-tac toe grid onto your picture, where the lines cross or intersect that is where your emphasis should be. The rule of thirds is just a technique to make your picture more enjoyable, interesting, and pleasing.
